L’émail de Limoges est encore largement méconnu du grand public. En une synthèse claire et abondamment illustrée, cet ouvrage retrace l’histoire de cet art précieux exercé par les artistes de Limoges, du Moyen Age à nos jours, avec une étonnante capacité de renouvellement. Proposé pour la première fois dans une lecture continue, ce panorama est jalonné de chefs-d’œuvre mondialement connus et de découvertes issues des plus récentes recherches.

From medieval smiths dealing with religious themes to the decorative tableware of the Renaissance, the enamels of the High Period made Limoges a high flier of this art all over Europe. If the French enamel was essentially a parisian phenomenon in the 19th century, the limousin capital participated again through the Art deco and Art nouveau styles in the great history of the decorative arts. A new generation of artists has recaptured the techniques and ensured the renewal of the art of enamel in Limoges with great resourcefulness.
